The Black Friday Checkout Playbook: Turn Every Ad Click Into a Loaded Cart
In November your ad costs triple, attention spans halve, and every extra tap between the click and the order is a leak. The stores that win BFCM aren't the ones with the deepest discounts — they're the ones with the shortest path to checkout.

The math nobody runs before Black Friday
Take a typical BFCM funnel: ad click → landing page → product page → pick a variant → add to cart → open cart → remember the discount code → type it → checkout. Industry benchmarks put drop-off at each of those steps between 10% and 30% — and on Black Friday, when your customer has forty tabs open and a phone full of push notifications, it's worse.
If eight steps each lose just 15% of shoppers, only about a quarter of your paid clicks ever see the checkout button. You paid Black Friday CPMs for all of them.
The fix: make the cart the landing page
A pre-loaded cart link collapses that entire funnel into one click. The customer taps your ad and lands with the exact products, variants, and quantities already in the cart, the discount already applied, one button away from paying. No product page, no variant picker, no coupon field.
Your Black Friday offer isn't "25% off." It's "you're already at checkout, and the 25% is already off."
The five-part BFCM link strategy
1. One link per offer, not per product
Build a preset for each hero offer: the doorbuster, the bundle, the gift set. Name them so your analytics stay readable — bfcm-doorbuster, bfcm-bundle, bfcm-vip.
2. Stack the discount, hide the code
Combine a line-item discount on the hero product, a cart-wide percentage, and free shipping in one link. Codes typed manually get mistyped, screenshotted, and leaked to coupon sites; discounts applied on link-open don't.
3. Give VIPs a head start
Point an early-access link at your VIP customer segment and schedule it to open Thursday night. Your best customers shop the sale before the traffic spike, and the exclusivity is real — the link simply won't work for anyone else.
4. Cap the doorbusters
Set total redemption limits on loss-leader offers so the "first 200 orders" claim is enforced server-side, not on the honor system.
5. Tag everything
Append UTMs per channel — one link for Meta, one for Klaviyo, one for SMS. On Saturday morning you'll know which channel deserves the remaining budget, per preset, down to revenue and AOV.
Where to deploy the links
- Meta & Google ads: use the rocket link as the ad's destination URL. The ad promises the deal; the link delivers it pre-applied.
- Email: make every product image and CTA in your BFCM sends a loaded-cart link, not a collection page.
- SMS: short links fit the 160-character budget and convert the impulse before it fades.
- QR codes: on packaging and in-store signage, a scan becomes a loaded mobile cart in Shop Pay.
Prep checklist (do this in October)
- List your BFCM offers and build one preset per offer.
- Test each link on mobile — that's where most of your traffic lands.
- Schedule go-live and end times so nothing depends on you being awake at midnight.
- Set purchase limits on anything margin-sensitive.
- Duplicate last year's winners as starting points for this year's campaigns.
Black Friday rewards preparation and punishes friction. Delete the friction now, and every dollar of November ad spend works harder.
